Wellington Alves da Silva

This flashy young star arrives to Levante on a loan deal from the legendary English club Arsenal. Silva has arrived in the winter transfer market and will remain with the team for the rest of the La Liga season. If the Spanish club are able to avoid relegation, Wellington could also stay on for next season's league campaign. The player had been on loan previously to the Brazilian club Fluminense, where he shined as a young talent breaking through into the first team. However, he soon fell out with the manager and was relegated to the bench for several months. Arsenal is now sending him on loan to Spanish club Levante, the "granotas" ("frogs" as the team and their supporters are affectionately known by in the valencian tongue).

Despite not speaking Spanish, the close resemblance between Portuguese and Spanish has allowed the player to grow closer to his teammates and the manager, Luis Garcia Plaza. Wellington's skills do not need translation as it is clear he will provide Levante with speed, agility and a great deal of skill on the pitch.

Only 18 years of age, Wellington Silva hopes to make a name for himself in Valencia and in La Liga to gain the experience necessary to return to Arsenal. In an interview with Spanish daily sports digest AS, Wellington stated: "I hope to have a great season. I want to adapt as quickly as possible. I want to train and play already because I have not played in a while and also to return the confidence to the club. In two weeks I'll be ready to play", he advertised to Levante fans, who eagerly await the arrival of the winger/forward in hopes that he can be key to the club obtaining the salvation of avoiding the bottom 3 relegation zone.

Here is a video from the club channel of Wellington's Presentation as a new Levante player!

Debut against Getafe!

Wellington Silva debuted in Levante's important 2-0 victory over Getafe.

After arriving just a mere few weeks ago, Wellington Silva, on loan from Arsenal Football Club, debuted for Spanish Club Levante. His teammates and the coaching staff have all been impressed with Wellington's abilities with the ball at his feet. It took very little time for the Brazillian to break into the team sheets. He asked manager Luis Garcia Plaza for two weeks to get acclimated to the club and the team. It appears that was all Garcia could wait to see Wellington in action.

After traveling with the team to Zaragoza and then Sevilla, but watching the game from the stands, Wellington made his first team sheet against Getafe and started the game on the bench as a reserve.

Wellington on the bench, waiting to be called on to warm up

After Levante led Getafe by 2 goals, the first on a timely strike from Valdo and the second by a precious chip shot by striker Felipe Caicedo, Manager Garcia made the call for Wellington to debut. In the 87' minute, Wellington went out on the pitch. He had time only for a few touches on the ball, yet still managed to leave one Getafe defender in the dust with a neat skill.

Next week is a regional derby against Villarreal, Wellington may have a fair shot at playing more minutes as team striker Felipe Caicedo, on loan from Manchester City, will be sitting out the game after receiving his 5th yellow card of the season.

Levante Take Madrigal by Storm!
Huge Win Away against Villareal!

Levante secured a surprise victory against the 3rd place team in La Liga, Villareal, a team who has been a revelation this season and prior to this game had not lost a single game at home.

WELLINGTON did not play, but did make the team sheet and watched attentively from the bench and celebrated the team´s important victory. He probably did not play as Luis Garcia was trying to protect the young player from a brutal game that Levante holding on to, a situation like that could have been a little tough for the youngster, who we will most likely see in action against Almeria next weekend!!

The Youngest Granota

Imagen

Valencia newspaper Las Provincias reports that Wellington Da Silva now holds the record for youngest player to wear the Levante blue and maroon shirt in the Spanish First Division. The previous record was held by Pons, now 66 years old, pictured here next to Wellington. Wellington, just 18 years and 23 days old debuted against Getafe a couple of weeks ago.

Pons stated that he hopes Wellington breaks another of his records: youngest goalscorer in a Levante shirt. Pons made this mark aged just 19 years and 316 days. While Wellington seems to be struggling to find a place in the very competitive team of Luis Garcia. We can all certainly dream, as Wellington certainly will, that the young Brazilian is capable of scoring a goal. If not this season, perhaps next. ;-)

Arsenal loan Wellington to Levante

Imagen

Arsenal Football Club has agreed for striker Wellington to join Spanish La Liga side Levante on a season-long loan.

The 18-year-old Brazilian youth International, who joined the Gunners from Fluminese a year ago, had a successful spell with the Spanish club on loan from January this year.

Arsenal has agreed for Wellington, who featured for Arsenal XI in pre-season games against AFC Wimbledon and Boreham Wood last season, to continue to gain experience at the La Liga outfit in the forthcoming campaign.

The loan is subject to a medical later today.

I am really excited about this. I think he is a great player who didnt get to show us much in the 5 months last season. He´s young, energized, motivated and I think this time will be different. Being with Levante in preseason, to get used to the team, style and tactics will be very good for him and will help him succeed I think.

Well naturally for him being having the Capricorn star sign he has tendency to play well when is really matters and is very fast and exciting. He seems like a person that could make something out of nothing but i havnt seen him to much to be that specific on how consistent he can be.

Im sure plenty that saw him playing last season for Levante would be able to help you out Jord.

He plays as a kind of behind-the-striker player. Its true that he didnt play much and he is questioned a lot for not having contributed more. However, Levante players have said a lot of great things about him and are very impressed with what he can do. That said he also showed some really great things in the last game of the season against Zaragoza. The video below speaks for itself.

He´s young and has a lot to work on, BUT he really showed a LOT of DESIRE when he came out that day. Zaragoza couldnt handle him except by trying to get him off his game by fouling him. If we can get that from him every day in training and on a regular basis in games, he is going to be a great player for us to have. I have to feel that this is also one of his last chances to really impress Arsenal. He´s very young true, but after this year, 2 years without playing (didnt play in Brasil and then 2 games with Levante) at a top level might be enough to cut his progression and make Arsenal start to have serious doubts about him as a player.
